ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cara lives at home with her family. She is a trained actress but prefers to focus her time on writing. She occasionally treads the boards with a local Amateur Dramatic group. This keeps her talents as an actor honed as well as feeding the acting bug that sometimes hits. But the most important thing in her busy life is her family: her husband along with two sons and a daughter who currently all require her attention as universities and sixth form beckons this Autumn.

Have you ever dyed your hair and thought 'skin test? Nah!' and just gone ahead with the application and dyeing of hair with no problem? Well, you're one of the lucky ones and it could be only a matter of time before you're one of the (many) unlucky ones to develop an allergy to PPD. I dyed my hair 3 days ago today and my head is swollen, itchy and sore. On the only plus side the colour is nice but it has been so not worth it. I'm on steroids, antihistamines and creams and that's only the beginning. Soon my head will dry up and flake and my shoulders will look snow-capped! I have been dyeing my hair for the past 25 years and had only a minor irritation when I tried a blue-black colour (yes, I know...And it wasn't a particularly attractive shade). Apart from that minor problem ten or so years back, nothing prepared me for the flare-up this time. So, my advice to me? ALWAYS do a skin patch test 72 hours before application. I say 72 because it was after the 48 hrs they say on box when my head began to throb and swell. Anyway, looks like dye is out and grey is in for the fore-seeable!

And as for writing? Well, some but not much has been accomplished since last time. However, both boys ensconced at University now and daughter settled into sixth form. Bye for now ;)

Daily routine??? Well, this morning woke to find one son gone - off to the beach for the day apparently! At least he had the good grace to leave a note so I wouldn't go out of my head with worry! My other son was flat out on the sofa (fully clothed and under a duvet) along with a mate. Both obviously very drunk the night before, and both sleeping in such awkward positions all I could think was: if I slept like that I wouldn't be able to move for the rest of the day. My dear and wonderful daughter who opened in our local theatre last night with the Youth group's version of 'Daisy Pulls It Off' announced that her boy/f was arriving for the day. With laundry, cleaning, etc. I'm kind of hard-pushed to find any time at the moment to write! I mean - I want to - but it is so easy to put it off. And next thing you know the husband is home from work and it's time to start all over again with house-type things. So, a writer's life for me? I fear not. At this rate I'll be lucky to get past the second chapter. But it is the second draft I'm working on. On the plus side, university beckons for both my sons - one a first year the other beginning his third year and final descent toward (hopefully) working life. And my daughter begins sixth form next week. Soon I will have the house to myself, writing in a peaceful environment to my hearts content, letting my creative flow do just that. Unless, that is, I'm successful in finding a (paid) job and will have to juggle and rearrange everything including that darned second draft. But that's another story.
